Our story

Where every stitch tells a story

Since 2019, we've been bringing the ancient art of Kantha quilting from the hands of Indian artisans directly into homes across the UK and beyond.

Who we are

Preserving a craft that's centuries old

Kraft House Creations — Kantha House was born from a deep love of Indian textile heritage. The word "Kantha" comes from the Sanskrit for "rags", but there is nothing ordinary about this art form. For generations, women across Bengal and Rajasthan have layered worn cotton saris and stitched them together with running thread, creating something entirely new from something old.

We work directly with skilled artisans who have inherited these techniques from their mothers and grandmothers. Every piece in our collection — from quilts and table runners to cushion covers and aprons — is the result of hours of careful, meditative handwork.

By choosing KHC, you're not just buying a beautiful object. You're supporting a living tradition and the livelihoods of the people who keep it alive.

What we stand for

Three values at the heart of everything

🤲

Artisan first

Every product is made entirely by hand by skilled craftspeople in India. We pay fair wages and build long-term relationships with the families we work with — not transactional, but genuinely collaborative.

🌿

Sustainably made

Over 80% of our materials are sustainable or recycled. Kantha itself is inherently a zero-waste craft — vintage saris and cotton scraps are given a second life rather than discarded.

Genuinely unique

No two pieces are identical. The pattern variations, colour combinations and stitch textures that emerge from handwork mean every item you receive is truly one of a kind.

A message from our founder

Manish Sankhala

Founder, Kraft House Creations
"I started KHC because I saw two things disappearing at once — a beautiful craft and the people who carried it. I wanted to build something that honoured both. Every order that comes through means an artisan in India gets to keep doing the work they love."

Based in Ashford, London, Manish founded Kraft House Creations in 2019 with a simple idea: connect UK homes with the authentic handmade textiles of India, transparently and fairly. What began as a small collection has grown into a full range of home furnishings, kitchen accessories and clothing — all rooted in the same commitment to craft.

How it's made

From raw cotton to your door

Kantha is a slow craft. Here's what goes into every piece before it reaches you.

1

Sourcing

Vintage saris and sustainable cotton are sourced from local markets and mills across Rajasthan and Bengal.

2

Layering

Multiple layers of fabric are stacked and aligned by hand, ready for stitching.

3

Hand stitching

Artisans use a simple running stitch to bind the layers together, creating the distinctive rippled texture of Kantha.

4

Quality check

Each finished piece is inspected, washed and carefully packaged before being shipped to your home.
